How to be successful by M. Curtis McCoy
Life brings us many joyful
moments as it goes downfalls, and although there are so many days in life when
we feel if there was someone or something that could just guide us on what to
do now. But the truth is it what we do when exposed to the same situation
depends on the character and thinking style of each person. People respond
differently because they are different.
The author M. Curtis McCoy in his
book How to be successful has presented very beautifully the views and
actions of different people. He has interviewed a lot of successful people
including himself and has presented the views and habits of them, that the
Readers can take inspiration from and apply them in making their lives better.
Not only he has included successful people only, but he has also included and
tried to analyze those who because for some reason, could not get success in
their lives. My favorite one is where he shared the secret of the broke person
who started from scratch and made it to driving twin-turbo Ferrari. On the
other hand, he also described the mentality of those people by giving several
examples who cannot succeed because they are jealous more and do not work
towards their goal.
The author has presented
very beautifully several philosophies of a successful and peaceful life in the
book. We always celebrate success for one day but think about failure for so
long. This is so well discussed in the chapter. The reader will get a great
idea of how it is important for one to reward himself/herself from time to time,
The notion of “overnight success” is also so well described here to make the
reader clear of the point that success has no shortcut other than hard work.
It is always said you cannot feel
good if you make someone else feel bad. Making someone else feel good,
appreciating someone gives you courage and strength as well. This idea has been
discussed so well. We, humans, are social animals. We definitely need people in
our life. We need friends. So, how to build a quality friendship with someone?
The book is a great way to know that.
Time is very important because it
can never come back. So we should not waste our time. Taking pride in one’s
appearance and teaching people how you want to be treated, this book is a great
book to read for. It is important that we should know how to say ‘No’ to
someone without hurting them. A reader will surely get an idea of this after
reading this book.
Today, people think using
profanity makes them cool or successful. The author makes a good point on it by
giving examples that you will find in the book. We, people, are products of our
own thoughts, so improving our habits will be definitely a step forward in the
journey of success. The author has explained this beautifully in the last
chapters.
To know what are the thoughts of
several successful people like Jeff “Biggs” Wobig (US Navy SEAL sniper), Connie
Wyatt (CMO of Beat Cellular), Paul B. Watson (Downtown Vineyard Church), Eric
Payne (Venture advocates), Caujuan Mayo (Uprock Publications), Nathan Schulhof
(Father of the MP3 player), and Jeff McGregor (Business developer and
musician) when questions like their definition of success and their weaknesses
come, you have to read the book.
I rate this book 3 out of 4
stars, although I want to give it 4. I cut one point because I find one
mistake in the book, which I really do not think should be there in such a fine
book like this. I would like to recommend this book to readers of all age
groups. Being a reader, I really loved the book. I think everyone should give
this book a try. Trust me your money and time invested in this book will yield
so good and sweet fruits in the future.
